So When Should Individuals Expect Their Economic Stimulus Payments?

Taxpayers who filed Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1040 by April 15th and who are expecting an economic stimulus payment can use the following schedule to obtain an idea of when the IRS will issue the payment.

Individuals and couples filing jointly who used direct deposit on the 2007 tax return will be among the first to receive payments beginning May 2. Those who did not use direct deposit on Form 1040 will receive payments by receipt of a paper check.

Checks will begin being mailed on May 16th. The timing of your payment depends on the last two digits of your Social Security number (SSN). Married couples who filed joint returns for 2008 should use the last two digits of the taxpayer named first on the joint return to determine the appropriate date.

Also, please remember that the amount of your economic stimulus payment is the result of the income reported on your 2007 tax return. If you are not certain whether you are due a payment, the IRS has an Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator online at the following webpage: http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/

Please do not hesitate to contact your tax return preparer if you have any questions regarding the receipt or amount, if any, of your economic stimulus payment.
